The Żerań combined heat and power plant in Warsaw, built in the mid-1950s, is one of the largest combined heat and power plants in Poland and generates both electricity and district heating. In order to be able to continue to operate the longest district heating network in Central Europe reliably in the future, modernization measures are constantly being implemented. Our XL4 penstocks meet an absolute tightness according to EN 12266 and can withstand a pressure of 1.0 bar with a water column of 10 m.

Completion is scheduled for 2024.

Tailor-made stainless steel penstock and flaps for flood protection
DN 1400 flap valve with counterweight and XL4 semicircular penstock with customised shaped invert have already been installed for construction section VII/VIII 2022-2025. Thanks to the shape of the base, which corresponds 1:1 to the shape of the channel, and the base seal on the plate, the penstock seals the channel perfectly. The penstock can be moved into the maintenance position for maintenance work. The modular actuation system with special emergency actuation via our MOBITORQ mobile actuatorrounds off the durable and safe functionality of the penstocks.
The subsequent stages are already in the planning phase. BÜSCH will be equipping the other construction phases with stainless steel penstocks up to and including 2028. Because future integrated water management needs reliable solutions.

The manufacturer of pulp, especially from eucalyptus, mechanical pulp and paper, attaches great importance to sustainability and produces the energy for its plants by using plant waste products from its own production.

The wastewater treatment plant project at ARA Basel once again demonstrated what sets us apart: comprehensive support throughout all project phases. From the initial enquiry to successful installation, we stood by our customer HFS Aqua AG as a reliable partner.
49 penstocks in a single structure
A total of 28 CP4 penstocks, nominal size 500 mm × 500 mm with pneumatic actuators – ensuring fast opening and closing – as well as 21 XL4 penstocks ranging in size from 800 mm to 2700 mm were designed, manufactured and installed for the structure.
As early as the planning phase, BÜSCH provided detailed installation requirements and CAD models – a crucial foundation for early and seamless integration into the concrete planning process.
Our experts also supported the project on site during implementation: as part of our supervision services, we actively assisted with penstock installation, explained each step of the assembly process, and carried out the joint final inspection of the structure.
The result: a technically flawless solution – professionally supported and safely implemented.
