Aluminum stop log

The Wöhrder See in Nuremberg, once created for flood protection, is now a popular local recreation area. As part of the transformation into the "Water World Wöhrder See", a bathing bay with a sandy beach and protected areas for biodiversity were created. To secure the lake, 14 New, foldable steel supports were installed. They were sealed with light aluminum stop logs from BÜSCH over a total length of around 22.4 m. This protective measure withstands a water pressure of 130 tons and is 3.1 m high.

Modernization under continuous operation
Hüttenteich reservoir in the Harz region (Germany) serves as an intermediate buffer for intermittently occurring discharge water from drinking water production as well as for stormwater runoff. During construction works, this buffering function had to be maintained at all times, and regulated discharge into the Grane receiving watercourse had to be ensured. At the same time, new shut-off devices were to be installed at the outlet structure to improve robustness, maintainability, and controllability of operation.

Conclusion:
Despite tight environmental and weather-related constraints, the outlet structure was successfully modernized under continuous operation. The combination of four double gate penstocks (1640 × 2850 mm), DIN 19704-compliant design, an integrated stoplog frame, and hybrid integration into the existing structure provides flexible, maintenance-friendly, and permanently reliable operating conditions. The bypass/siphon concept reliably decoupled the Grane inflow from the construction site while ensuring water quality and schedule compliance.

XL4 special construction

The special console has a total height of 2.5 m. For better operation, a grating level (customer-specific) is subsequently installed. The installation depth of the lower penstock is: 12.34 m plus an operating height of 1.3 m.

After the extreme floods in May 2014, which caused dozens of deaths and great financial damage in the region, the project of the flood protection structure was pushed ahead by the state with high priority. On January 14th, 2015, the four XL4 penstocks could be installed in a flood protection structure in be installed on site near Brčko by our assembly team.

Tailor-made stainless steel penstock and flaps for flood protection
DN 1400 flap valve with counterweight and XL4 semicircular penstock with customised shaped invert have already been installed for construction section VII/VIII 2022-2025. Thanks to the shape of the base, which corresponds 1:1 to the shape of the channel, and the base seal on the plate, the penstock seals the channel perfectly. The penstock can be moved into the maintenance position for maintenance work. The modular actuation system with special emergency actuation via our MOBITORQ mobile actuatorrounds off the durable and safe functionality of the penstocks.
The subsequent stages are already in the planning phase. BÜSCH will be equipping the other construction phases with stainless steel penstocks up to and including 2028. Because future integrated water management needs reliable solutions.
